Common RPZ Valve Problems

The faults that cause RPZ valves to fail a test or discharge — and what is needed to put them right.

Scale and debris build-up

Hard water and debris can prevent the check valves or relief valve from seating properly, causing weep or test failure.

Fix: A clean and service of the internals usually restores correct operation.

Worn seals and seats

Over time the rubber seals and seating faces wear, allowing leakage past the check valves.

Fix: Replacement of the seal kit and re-testing resolves most wear-related failures.

Relief valve not opening

If the relief valve sticks, the valve cannot discharge under fault conditions and protection is lost.

Fix: We service or replace the relief valve assembly and confirm the opening pressure on re-test.

Incorrect installation

Valves fitted the wrong way round, or without the required clearances, cannot be tested or may not protect correctly.

Fix: We correct the installation and re-test to confirm compliant protection.

Continuous discharge

A valve that constantly discharges water is usually failing and needs attention.

Fix: We diagnose the cause and carry out the service or replacement needed.
