What is an RPZ valve?
An RPZ (Reduced Pressure Zone) valve is the most reliable form of backflow prevention available for protecting the public water supply. It is required where a commercial premises poses a serious risk of contamination, such as dental surgeries, commercial kitchens, industrial processes and boosted water supplies.
An RPZ valve works by maintaining a zone of lower pressure between two check valves. If the mains pressure drops or reverse flow occurs, the relief valve opens and vents the water to atmosphere, preventing any contamination from reaching the public supply.
